A Walk Into Wine: SGWV and Matter of Taste Elevate London Wine Scene
LONDON, UK — When the best of the best of the wine world turn up at a single event, there’s no doubt that it turns into one of the industry’s most cherished milestones. This was exactly what took place during the second leg of Matter of Taste at the famed Saatchi Gallery in London. Gathering over 600 iconic vintages from all global wine regions, the event was attended by the movers and shakers of the industry, including world-class wine storage facility Singapore Wine Vault, who served as official logistics partners for the occasion.
Matter of Taste was conceptualized by renowned critic Robert Parker Jr., and his team at Wine Advocate, as a way of promoting knowledge and appreciation of the world’s best wines. The event was graced by wine enthusiasts and well-respected winemakers, estate owners and some of the UK’s best wine merchants. This event was held exclusively for subscribers to Robert Parker’s online magazine The Wine Advocate who registered to attend the event. The event also featured Masterclasses focusing on different wine variants, led by Mr. Parker and a team of renowned critics.
The event was a sellout success. Great vintages and exemplary wines that got high ratings from The Wine Advocate were featured in the masterclasses held during the event. Christian Moueix of Chateau Petrus leading the Dominus Estate session introduced the 2001 (RP 98), 2002 (RP 99), 2006 (RP 96), 2008 (RP 99), 2009 (RP 97), 2010 (RP 100) vintages. Don Weaver, Director of Harlan Estate and Cory Empting of Harlan and Bond were also on-hand to demonstrate Napa Valley’s finest terroirs through the 2010 Melbury (RP 98+), 2010 Quella (RP 97), 2010 St. Eden (RP 98), 2010 Vecina (RP 95), and 2010 Pluribus (RP 99).
Alain and Pauline Vauthier also turned up to helm the Chateau Ausone session, featuring Chateau Ausone 2000 (RP 98+), Chateau Ausone 2006 (RP 98), Chateau Ausone 2008 (RP 98), Chateau Ausone 2011 (RP 95+), and Le Chapelle d’ Ausone 2001 (RP 90). Louis Roederer Cristal also unveiled some of the most celebrated champagnes from the library including those from 1999 (RP 98), 2000 (RP 95), 2002 (RP 94), 2004 (RP 97), and 2006 (RP 93).
Another popular class, Penfold’s Shiraz in Many Forms introduced guests to the 1998 St Henri, 2010 St Henri (RP 97+), 1998 (Magill Estate, 2010 Magill Estate (RP 94+), 1998 RWT (RP 93), 2010 RWT (RP 93+), 1998 Grange (RP 96+), 2010 Grange (RP 99), and Great Grandfather NV (RP 96), led by Sam Stephens of Penfold’s.
Exploring and introducing the various facets of the world’s best wines, Matter of Taste was a rousing success in giving wine lovers new and old a refreshing take on the ever-evolving world of vino.
